Barkitecture was awarded because it demonstrated exceptional leadership, collaboration, innovation, and community impact. Its grassroots success - organized primarily by two individuals with no initial budget - brought together the interior design, architecture, construction, and broader Treasure Valley communities around a meaningful cause.

It was created with a clear mission: to unify the design and construction community while engaging the public through a shared love for pets. Design teams were invited to create pet-related structures that were displayed and voted on by attendees, with all proceeds split 50/50 between the Consortium for Interior Design – Idaho (a partnership between IIDA Northern Pacific Chapter and ASID Intermountain) and a local animal shelter. The event highlighted creativity, engagement, and purpose while reinforcing the value of interior design beyond traditional project work.

The event attracted more than 825 attendees and raised $10,500, while also creating an effective platform for public education and advocacy about the interior design profession and its role in health, safety, and welfare. Its strong volunteer engagement, strategic community outreach, financial success, charitable impact, and ability to elevate the visibility of the profession made Barkitecture an outstanding example of what an IIDA chapter can accomplish through collaboration and a clear vision.
